Edit: Not likely that anyone will see, but you can set your git config to use a SOCKS5(h) proxy to clone these repositories without fear that GH/MS is capturing your IP when you touch the repos as a honeypot.

Assuming you have tor's proxy running on the default port (if you can't get something like that set up, you shouldn't be playing with these tools), you can set the config like so:
$ git config --global http.proxy socks5h://127.0.0.1:9050
or
$ git config --global http.proxy socks5h://domain\\username:password@server:port
if you have authentication set up on a remote server.
