Japan's National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity (NISC) has been infiltrated by hackers, who may have gained access to sensitive data for as much as nine months. The attack, which is believed to be the work of Chinese state-backed hackers, was not detected until June. The NISC is responsible for Japan's national defenses against cyberattacks. The breach is a major security lapse for Japan, which is increasingly seen as a target for cyberattacks.
