Yes. When someone is sentenced, it belongs in News. The rest was just background/context.

Because DOJ press releases or other press releases often talk about what the maximum sentence could be, I always try to go back and find out what the actual sentence was -- as a way of hopefully discouraging hype about sentencing.

For example:  some people and sites are reporting that Pom could be sentenced to 40 years. That reflects a misunderstanding of sentencing guidelines and how sentencing actually goes.  It's understandable because court documents tell you the maximum for each charge, but there's a lot those filings don't explain clearly.  And they often don't tell you the minimum amount of time a defendant will have to serve of their sentence before they might be eligible for parole.

So yeah, I post news on sentencing so people can learn how things really work.

Quote:Three years after one of the most visible hacks in recent history played out in real-time in front of millions of Twitter users, one of the hackers responsible for the breach will now serve time in federal prison.

Joseph James O’Connor, 24, was sentenced Friday in a New York federal court to five years in prison after pleading guilty in May to four counts of computer hacking, wire fraud and cyberstalking. O’Connor also agreed to forfeit at least $794,000 to the victims of his crimes.

O’Connor, a U.K. citizen, was extradited from Spain at the request of U.S. prosecutors earlier this year and has remained in custody since.

In the hearing, Judge Jed S. Rakoff said O’Connor will likely serve about half of his sentence after spending more than two years in pre-trial custody.

For more background, the DOJ's press release on his extradition and guilty plea can be found at https://www.databreaches.net/u-k-citizen...-offenses/

For some reason, I thought that database leak was actually a site scrape rather than a hack of the DB. Maybe I'm wrong.
